Diatribe IV 1, introduced, translated and with interpretative essays by Samuel Vollenweider \/ Manuel Baumbach \/ Eva Ebel \/ Maximilian Forschner \/ Thomas Schmeller, T\u00fcbingen 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diatribe IV 1&nbsp;<em>peri eleutherias<\/em>&nbsp;is one of the densest (and at the same time one of the longer) conversations of Epictetus (around 100 AD) that the historian Arrian has handed down to us. This exemplary text not only bundles many of the Stoic's central doctrinal themes, but also strikingly demonstrates his psychagogical art. In addition to a detailed introduction, text and translation as well as a continuous commentary, the volume also contains a series of essays that take their starting point from specific passages in the text in order to unfold other epictetic contexts as well as broader analyses of the philosophical background and the contemporary environment.
