Joseph und Aseneth, introduced, translated and provided with interpretative essays by Eckart Reinmuth / Stefan Alkier / Brigitte Boothe / Uta Barbara Fink / Christine Gerber / Karl-Wilhelm Niebuhr / Angela Standhartinger / Manuel Vogel / Jürgen K. Zangenberg, Tübingen 2009.

The story of Joseph and Aseneth is a love and conversion story in one. It tells of the proud Egyptian priest's daughter Aseneth, her love for Joseph, the son of Jacob, her conversion and preservation, and thus ties in with a note in the biblical Joseph narrative (Gen 41:45). This narrative work of ancient Judaism is offered in an up-to-date translation on the latest text-critical basis. The introductory contributions hint at the wide range of topics touched upon in Joseph and Aseneth In addition to the introductory scholarly and text-critical questions, the focus is on the legal and economic-historical circumstances, the religious-historical background, the significance for the New Testament, narrative structure and ethics as well as psychological aspects, but also the astonishing history of the impact of this narrative.
